Overview

Aberdeen Airport is consulting on two changes to the airspace surrounding the airport. These proposals are part of an industry-wide drive, led by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) who regulate the UK’s airspace, to modernise UK airspace infrastructure.

As part of this consultation, we are asking for your feedback on the following two proposals:

  • The introduction of modern satellite-based arrival procedures which would be used by a very small percentage of arrivals for resilience and training purposes.
  • The  release of a section of the Controlled Airspace (CAS), which is not routinely used by the aircraft arriving or departing from Aberdeen Airport,  for the benefit of other airspace users.

For a summary of our proposals, please see our Consultation Summary document below.

We also have a more in-depth Main Consultation Document and the detailed technical information in our Full Options Appraisal

Aberdeen Airport has created a list of "Frequently Asked Questions" about this proposal. This document currently has a number of questions about our proposals, the airport and the airspace change process. As this consultation progresses Aberdeen Airport will update the list of Questions and Answers from the feedback consultees are providing. The FAQ document is available here.

We are holding 4 online events, for a range of audiences where we will discuss our consultation material and you can ask any questions you may have.

*A recording of our proposals being presented during the first webinar can be viewed on our consultation site here: https://aberdeenairport.consultationonline.co.uk/ *

Our drop-in event for this consultation has already taken place. However, we still have two online webinar sessions you can join to find out more about our consultation proposals. Details on the events and how to register are below.

Why your views matter

Following the creation of design principles, the development and initial appraisal of options for the introduction of new arrivals at Aberdeen Airport, and the proposed change to Controlled Airspace, we are now at Stage 3 of the Airspace Change Process.

This is the stage where we undertake detailed analysis of our options and consult with stakeholders. This consultation allows Aberdeen Airport to gather and consider views and information from relevant stakeholders about the potential impacts of this ACP. Stakeholders have a crucial role to play in providing relevant and timely feedback to Aberdeen Airport with their views and opinions on the impact of this Airspace Change Proposal (ACP).

Our consultation materials, available on this page, have been produced to help you respond to the consultation and stakeholders should read these materials before submitting their response.

The consultation begins on Monday 29 April 2024 and closes on Sunday 21 July 2024.

What happens next

After the consultation has closed Aberdeen Airport will collate, review and categorise the consultation responses, in line with CAP1616 guidance.

Abeerdeen Airport will then produce a Consultation Response document which will summarise the consultation, the responses received and outline any feedback or themes which will be carried forward to Stage 4 for further consideration.

At Stage 4 of the CAP1616 process, the information received during the consultation will be considered, and the design of the Airspace Change Proposals will be reviewed before we submit our third appraisal (the Final Options Appraisal), to be reviewed by the CAA.

Throughout the process the CAA's Airspace Change Portal will be updated with the latest information.
