Overview

This Portal aims to provide stakeholders with the information that they require in order to fully understand the MOD’s proposal to facilitate Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS) operation of High Altitude Long Endurance (HALE) Remotely Piloted Aircraft (RPA) from RAF Fairford.

This Portal allows stakeholders to provide feedback on the airspace option proposed in the consultation document. The consultation document, as well as all supporting documentation can be found below. All other documentation relating to this airspace change proposal to date can be found on the CAA Airspace Change portal, a link to which can be found at the bottom of this page.

After engagement with stakeholders during previous stages the Sponsor is seeking consultation on a single Danger Area option. As explained in the Consultation Document, HALE Options 1 and 2 have been discounted and HALE Option 3 is the remaining option.

Why your views matter

The MOD would like the views of a wide range of stakeholders including:

  1. NATMAC organisations
  2. Local aviation stakeholders
  3. Local communities

The purpose of this consultation period is to provide an opportunity for all stakeholders to comment on the proposed airspace design option. This feedback will be collated and analysed by the Sponsor and help to shape the final proposal that will be submitted to the CAA.

The key themes that the Sponsor is seeking to answer through consultation include, but is not limited to, the following:

  • The perceived effect of this proposal (positive or negative)
  • Key concerns for stakeholders
  • Mitigating factors that could be employed to minimise impact

The consulation period will commence on Wednesday, 11 October and conclude on Tuesday 21 November 2023

What happens next

On completion of consultation, the Sponsor will review all responses and categorise them for analysis. As with previous engagement, feedback responses will be categorised into responses directly relating to the ACP and more general feedback that does not.

All original responses will be analysed and sent to the CAA with a redacted version uploaded to the Portal (including raw data).
