Overview

City of Derry Airport (CoDA) is consulting on the introduction of Performance Based Navigation Approaches (PBN) for aircraft arriving at the airport.

This airspace change proposal aims to replicate exisiting arrival routes and does not increase the number of aircraft arrivals or depatures at CoDA. There will be no changes to departure routes and the majority of aircraft will continue to fly as they do today.

Although, the aim has been to replicate existing arrival routes, some very small differences exist. Also, the introduction of PBN arrival routes requires the introduction of PBN missed approaches.

We are seeking your feedback on our single core proposal, which is the PBN replication of the existing arrival routes and our three PBN missed approach options.

We anticipate that these routes will only be used by some arrivals at the airport, the majority of aircraft will continue to arrive as they do today.

Why your views matter

Following the creation of design principles, and the development and initial appraisal of options for the introduction of PBN approaches, we are now at Stage 3 of the Airspace Change Process. This is the stage where we undertake detailed analysis of the PBN approaches and then consult with our stakeholders.

Through the links at the bottom of this page you will find the consultation documents associated with the introduction of PBN approaches.

Our summary document aims to provide you with brief details on our proposal.

We also have a more in-depth main consultation document and the detailed technical information in our Full Options Appraisal

As this consultation progresses CoDA is monitoring the responses and composing a list of 'Frequently Asked Questions' from the feedback consultees are providing. The FAQ document, with CoDA's answers, is available here.

We are holding 2 on-line events, where we will discuss with you our consultation material and you can ask any questions you may have. More details of these events and how to register are towards the bottom of this page.

What happens next

After the consultation has closed, we will collate, review, and categorise consultation responses on the portal.

We expect to submit a formal Airspace Change Proposal (ACP) to the CAA in March 2022.

If approved, we plan to introduce PBN Approaches at CoDA in Q4 2022.

Throughout the process we will update the CAA’s Airspace Change Portal with the latest information.
