Removal of the Stansted LYD 6R/5S SIDs
NATS is proposing that ATS route M604 is extended from DET VOR to LYD VOR. This would replace the final segment of the Stansted LYD 6R/5S Standard Instrument Departures (SIDs), and hence would allow the removal of these SIDs. The DET 1R/1S SIDs which follow exactly the same track to DET would be used instead. This is a technical flight planning change and will not have any impact on aircraft tracks over the ground. This change is necessary to remove the dependency... MoreClosed 14 December 2020 -
Realignment of Routes Q36/Q37 to accommodate Dublin R2
NATS is proposing to realign ATS routes Q36 and Q37 so that they start from individual Co-ordination points (COPs) on the western UK FIR (Flight Information Region) boundary rather than diverging from a single COP, LIFFY. ATS routes Q36 and Q37 were introduced into the UK Route network in November 2017 to serve eastbound departures from Dublin airport. When designed, it was envisaged that these routes would ultimately run parallel starting at independent COPs on... MoreClosed 18 May 2020 -
Bournemouth International Airport RNAV Airspace Change Proposal - DEADLINE EXTENDED
Bournemouth Airport has runway (RWY) 08 and RWY 26, both providing precision (instrument) approach capabilities via Instrument Landing System (ILS). The preferential runway is RWY 26 handling 75% of all arrivals with the remainder utilising RWY 08. The ILS on RWY 26 is CAT III. The ILS (CAT I) serving RWY 08 is obsolete and needs to be replaced. The ILS was installed second hand in 1984/85 and the equipment and maintenance support is at end of life. Unrecoverable failure of the ILS on RWY 08... MoreClosed 15 May 2020 -
Liverpool John Lennon Airport Airspace Transition
The aim of this consultation is to seek stakeholder’s views on the publication of new procedures that will be flown by aircraft departing from, and arriving at Liverpool John Lennon Airport (LJLA). The majority of UK airports, including LJLA, are seeking to modernise the routes aircraft fly to and from the airport. The routes are known as Instrument Flight Procedures (IFPs), which broadly means that the aircraft’s onboard instruments or systems are used to navigate to and... MoreClosed 27 April 2020 -
Cotswold Airport (Kemble) - Airspace Change for PBN (GPS) Approaches to Runway 08 and Runway 26
The aim of this proposal is to develop and publish a suitable Performance Based Navigation GPS landing approach to support existing arrivals. Although they comprise only 0.7 % of Cotswold Airport’s annual movements, these aircraft have a disproportionate positive economic effect on the airport and surrounding area of Gloucestershire and Wiltshire . They are essential to the continued economic viability of the Airport and MRO businesses. These ... MoreClosed 6 April 2020 -
Free Route Airspace (FRA) Deployment 1
Free Route Airspace (FRA) is well established and NATS has been involved in developing the FRA concept over the last 5 years. FRA is a major initiative of the UK CAA’s Airspace Modernisation Strategy (AMS) (CAP 1711) . The implementation of FRA by European Union (EU) member states was mandated in European Law under the EU Implementing Regulation EU716/204 and has been recommended as a part of the Eurocontrol Single European Sky ATM Research (SESAR) programme. ... St Athan Instrument Landing System ILS
The aim of this consultation is to seek stakeholder’s views on the publication of the existing St Athan Instrument Landing System (ILS) procedures, previously published in the publicly available Military Aeronautical Information Publication (Mil AIP), into its civilian counterpart, the UK (Aeronautical Information Publication) AIP. There are no physical or operational changes to the ILS procedures as a result of them being published in the UK AIP, therefore the following... MoreClosed 28 October 2019 -
Windfarm-TMZ
This airspace change proposal (ACP) is sponsored by us, Seagreen Wind Energy Limited (SWEL), referred to in this consultation as the Developer or the Sponsor. We intend to develop an offshore wind farm in the North Sea. Wind turbines can interfere with air traffic control radars, so we need to add an airspace structure known as a Transponder Mandatory Zone (TMZ) (for more details see paragraphs 3.3 - 3.8 in the Consultation document). Other options were considered... MoreClosed 16 October 2019 -
NATS SAIP AD5: Proposed changes to LAC West to improve ATS route connectivity
NATS' Swanwick Airspace Improvement Programme (SAIP) is proposing a number of modular airspace changes within the London Flight Information Region (FIR). This module, SAIP AD5, concerns the development of the following four distinct areas of LAC west airspace: Birmingham arrivals and departures We are proposing to establish new ATS Routes and CAS for Birmingham arrivals and departures via the MOSUN area. There are currently no flight plannable routes to/ from the South-West within... MoreClosed 18 April 2019 -
MOD Combat Air Training Airspace
In the Strategic Defence and Security Review 2015, the Government committed the UK to increasing the number of combat aircraft that the MOD will operate and confirmed the intention to buy 5th generation fast jets. Additionally, as its NATO ally, the US Government has committed to the continued basing of combat aircraft within the UK. Resultantly, there is a projected growth of more capable combat aircraft planned to operate within the UK. To support this Government-directed expansion in... MoreClosed 14 September 2018 -

NATS SAIP AD3, proposed changes to UK traffic flows around the southern FIR boundary
NATS is proposing to systemise and improve the connectivity of airspace at the southern FIR boundary; through the realignment of existing ATS routes. These changes are necessary to support the proposed new SIDs and STARs serving Jersey and Guernsey Airports. MoreClosed 30 May 2018 -
NATS SAIP AD4, proposed systemised changes to eastbound and westbound traffic flows in the Clacton Sector
NATS is proposing to systemise and reduce the complexity of eastbound and westbound ATS routes in the Clacton Sector through the introduction of new RNAV1 ATS routes. These changes have been designed in support of the free route airspace implementation (FRA-M) in the Netherlands, east of the UK FIR boundary. MoreClosed 30 May 2018
